Get Real. Get Outside.

Found a great advertisement from STIHL. This company basically is a manufacturer of chainsaws. Wikipedia stated that STIHL is the world’s best selling brand of chainsaws. Well, I’m not interested with the chainsaws, but its advertisement. It’s true that real life can never be replaced by mere pixels :)

Meditation

I guess many of us forget the importance of ‘The Present’. Well, I admit that I’m one of the people whose mind easily goes to the past and the future, and rarely think about the present. I realize it recently when I meditate. I don’t know much about meditation itself actually. What I did recently is just this kind of meditation where I sat cross-legged, closed my eyes comfortably, and relax (ah, and I also lit incense). Sounds pretty simple, but once you try it; you will know how restless our mind is. It’s wandering to the past and the future, but rarely present in ‘the present’.

Our acts are the consequences of our thoughts. Our thought is powerful. It can be the source of innovation, prosperity, and peace; yet equally likely, it can also be the source of human misery, corruption, and tragedy. Ultimately, it is responsible for the rise and fall of civilizations throughout our recorded history. Those that can change their thoughts for the better are the ones moving forward to a better future. The right thoughts arise from clarity of the mind, and such clarity of the mind comes from the stillness within.”

Because our minds are always active and moving while also being pulled and pushed here and there, trying to get things done and organize it all at the same time, we don’t always see the deeper and more subtle parts of what is going on inside of “us”.

“We can look at this from a few different angles. Suppose that we were to take a bucket and scoop up some water, including a bit of muddy sediment, from a lake. The water is a bit murky because the sediment has been mixed with the water and is in motion. If someone was to ask what is inside of the water, would we be able to tell them? We might be able to make some good guesses. Maybe there’s a piece of a tire, maybe a shoe, or a license plate, or maybe a fish. In reality we would have to wait for the sediment to settle for us to really be able to see and then know.”

One thing that I realized from the importance of meditation is that we can never bring peace in the world, if there’s no peace within ourselves.

Peace in, peace out! :)
